The shape of stone is what gives it character. The most important aspects regarding shape are porportions and symmetry. The cut of a stone often makes a difference. This is the only characteristc of a gemstone that is controlled by man. An expert cutter can transform a gemstone by accentuating all of it strengths. Although by cutting a stone you lose in carat weight, the improvement could significantly augemnet its value. Bayco re-cuts each stone to amplify it to its maximum beauty.
Precious gemstones can come in many shades of the same color. Some stones may be too pale, while others may be too dark. Although color has a lot to do with personal taste, to find the perfect tone of color is a master skill.
Almost all precious gemstones are highly included, stones that have minimal to no inclusions at all are extremely rare; therefore less inclusions equal a higher value. This is because the fewer inclusions a stone has the higher the brilliancey will be, as light can travel through undisturbed. A stone with a high luster is alwys more desirable.
Size is an important factor in precious gemstones and is characterized by carat weight. In most circumstances the larger the stone is the more valuable it is; a larger crystal is rarer to be formed in nature.
